Women’s Basketball Rolls Over Binghamton

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team (3-4, 0-0 NEC) took care of business at home against Binghamton (3-3, 0-0 Am. East) beating them by a final score of 63-40.  

How it Happened 

  • It was a tightly-contested first quarter, but an Aniya Bell three-point play pushed the Knights ahead 19-15 – a lead that they would not give up the remainder of the game. 
  • The Knights would continue to pull away from the Bearcats in the second quarter, and Devyn Scott's buzzer-beater to end the half gave the Knights an 13-point lead.  
  • The second half was all FDU, with the Knights starting the third quarter on a 9-3 run and continue to apply the pressure onto the Bearcats. 
  • The capper to the game was a three-point fourth quarter for the Bearcats, emphasizing the defensive prowess of FDU.  
  • The Knights would ultimately push their lead past 20 points and claim a 63-40 victory. 

Inside the Box Score 

  • FDU were led by the efforts of Sierra DeAngelo, who made her first start of the season and led the team in points, with 16, and rebounds, with nine.  
  • The Knights were also paced by the efforts of Celia Carbonell, who added ten points to the Knights cause. Devyn Scott dished out a game-high four assists to go along with eight points.  
  • It was a total team effort on both sides of the ball for the Knights, as FDU held Binghamton to a 1-for-18 night shooting from three. On the game, the Bearcats shot just 28.6% compared to FDU's 42.1%. 

Coach Szumilo's Thoughts 
"A great team win! Our defense was a driving force today. I thought we were very focused on what we needed to take away and for the most part we were able to do that." 

What's Next 
The Knights return to the Stratis Arena at the Rothman Center on Tuesday, December 7, at 7 p.m., where they will host Delaware State. The game will be streamed live on NEC Front Row.
