SOMERSET, N.J. -- The Northeast Conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon juniors Teodors Pukse and Amina Lasheen each earned the Player of the Month award for men's and women's tennis, respectively, while Namie Isago took home the Rookie of the Month award for women's tennis.
At the ITA Regional Championships, Teodors Pukse went 6-2, making a run to the singles tournament Round of 32 and the double tournament Round of 16. Pukse went 2-1 in singles action, including a resounding 6-4, 6-2 win over Jan Godfrey Sano of St. Francis Brooklyn in his opening match which set the tone for the exciting run. Pukse and doubles partner Niclas Pietsch also went 4-1 at the event, making it through qualifying to advance to the Round of 16 in the main tournament.
Amina Lasheen shone for the Knights at the Hofstra Invitational where she helped the Knights go 12-0, herself going 4-0 over the weekend. Lasheen dropped just a single game over her four matches, going 2-0 in both singles and doubles play. Her lone dropped set came in a match where she utterly dominated following the dropped set, ultimately taking the second set 6-0 and the third set 10-2.
Namie Isago went 3-0 at the Hofstra Invitational, with her fourth match shortened by rain, and also helped the Knights finish with a perfect record. Isago's weekend included a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Hofstra's Kaitlyn Ferguson, and her stellar outing in the event came as a building-off of an ITA Regional Championships earlier in the month (outside of the NEC voting timeframe) where she and double partner Marta Bettinelli advanced to the Round of 32 for the tournament.
The accolades earned by Knights this month mark the second consecutive month in which FDU took home silverware from the conference, and means that the Knights have won every honor at least once, as Justas Trainauskas took home the men's Rookie of the Month honor in October.
