SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Senior forward
Diego Arribas hit a highlight reel-worthy bicycle-kick goal on Sunday in a 2-0 win for the Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team (5-5-2, 3-0-1 NEC) at Bryant (3-5-2, 2-2-0 NEC) in Northeast Conference play. With the win, FDU adds three points and holds 10 on the season in the conference table - good for sole possession of second place.
How it Happened
- Assisted by graduate student Stefano Pesce, Arribas fired home his sixth goal of the season - career goal 16 - in the 25' to break the scoreless tie and provide his side a 1-0 advantage. The remarkable goal caught the attention of ABC7 Eyewitnesses News and was featured on their 6 p.m. telecast. (Click the image above, or here, to view the clip)
- After firing off several shots off target as the half progressed, Arribas would find his name in the box score again, this time garnering an assist on sophomore defender Hugo Bacharach's first goal of the year in the 38'.
- FDU would hold Bryant to just two shots in the first 45' of action
Inside the Box Score
- Head coach Seth Roland's side 11 total shots in the bout, including six on goal, twice that of the home team (3).
- Redshirt junior Spencer King earned the start in net and went the full 90 minutes, recording a clean sheet and three saves on the afternoon.
- The win pushes FDU's NEC unbeaten streak to four matches in conference play. The Knights also improved their overall road record to 3-2 in the fall 2021 campaign.
Coach Roland's Thoughts
"The guys are playing well right now - defensively, offensively, in possession, on counter attacks. Bryant is a difficult team to break down and is very competitive, especially on their home field; but we put in a very professional effort from start to finish and Diego [Arribas] scored a goal-of-the-year nominee. Hugo's [Bacharach] goal off a Diego assist was a great goal, as well. A well deserved three points for the team."
What's Next
Roland's Knights continue to be road warriors as the side heads to New Britain, Conn. on Thursday, October 14, for a 7 p.m. bout with Central Connecticut State live on NEC Front Row.
