SOMERSET, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson freshman guard
Joe Munden Jr. is the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week presented by Pilot Pen as announced by the league on Monday afternoon. In earning the honor, Munden joins classmate
Pier-Olivier Racine who took home the award last week.
Facing two difficult road tests in Hofstra and Providence, Munden averaged 7.5 points, four rebounds, and an assist on 6-of-11 (54.5 percent) shooting.
"Joe Munden has brought it from day one here and not only in games but in every practice that we have had," said head coach
Greg Herenda. "Joe brings an energy and spirit to the floor that is hard to quantify. He is a very exciting player offensively and the greatest thing about Joe is that he loves to defend. Having two freshmen winning this award in two weeks is very special and I know Mikey will be hunting one down as well."
The Bronx, New York native opened the week by scoring seven points and grabbing six rebounds with two assists in the Knights' loss at Hofstra. On Saturday at Big East power Providence, Munden hit 3-of-4 from the field en route to a new career-high eight points. The freshman is averaging 6.3 points and 4.0 rebounds through his first four collegiate games.
In addition to Munden, senior guard
Jahlil Jenkins was recognized as a weekly NEC Prime Performer after averaging 15 points, four rebounds and 3.5 assists over the two games.
The Knights return to action on Tuesday night when they host Central Connecticut State at 7:00 p.m. in the 2020-21 NEC opener.
