Chloe Wilson paced the Knights with 14 points as FDU (2-1) earned a 54-48 win over NJIT (1-3) in a non-conference contest on Friday night from the Rothman Center.
Wilson went 5-8 from the floor and pulled down a team-leading six rebounds in the victory. Senior
Madison Stanley also registered double-digit points with 13 in her first game of the season.
Coach Szumilo's Thoughts
"We played defense and I think that is what kept us in the game and in the second half a couple of players stepped up and we were able to take that lead and take it all the way to the end," stated coach Szumilo after the win. "When you take care of the ball, it gives you extra possessions and its that many less times you have to play defense."

How it Happened
- Stanley opened the contest with five of the first 10 points to give the Knights an early 8-2 lead, but the Highlanders scored seven unanswered points to take a 9-8 advantage with 3:49 left in the first quarter.
- FDU's offense caught fired over the final 3:49 of the first and went on a 12-4 run led by six points from Wilson to take a 20-13 advantage into the second quarter.
- Both defenses stepped up and settled in during a second quarter in which the Highlanders outscored FDU 12-6 as NJIT trailed 26-25 after two quarters of action.
- Sophomore Sierra DeAngelo, Stanley, and Wilson each recorded made layups during the second quarter.
- The Highlanders opened the third quarter with a pair of layups to take a three-point lead, but the Knights fought back as the lead changed two more times as Wilson scored six points to lead FDU as the Burgundy and Blue led 34-33 after three quarters.
- Over the first five minutes of the fourth, there were five lead changes and sophomore Maria Roters erupted for seven points as the Knights and Highlanders were even at 43-43 with 4:55 to play.
- After the teams traded buckets to make it a 45-45 affair, FDU went on a 5-0 run led by a pair of free throws from Roters and a layup and foul shot from sophomore Celia Carbonell with 0:31 seconds remaining.
- Stanley connected on four free throws down the stretch as the Knights prevailed 54-48.
