Roters Garners Second NEC Rookie of the Week Honor

SOMERSET, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball freshman forward Maria Roters garnered Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week honors on Wednesday, as announced by the league office.

The 6-foot forward from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, shot efficiently from the floor by making 5-of-7 field goals on her way to 12 points, helping the Knights defeat Central Connecticut State on Monday, 66-47, for the team's seventh win in 10 games. Roters also grabbed six rebounds and recorded two steals and an assist in the win while draining both of her free throw attempts.

The freshman notched her second consecutive double-digit point total as well as her third-best point total in a game this season in the victory, previously scoring a high of 15 points on her way to earning her first NEC Rookie of the Week award back in December. Roters is the first Knight to receive multiple NEC weekly honors in the same season since Erika Livermore earned back-to-back NEC Player of the Week awards in 2015.

For the season, Roters is averaging 6.6 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game, fifth and fourth on the team respectively, and she is second on the team with a .414 shooting percentage from the field. The freshman also leads the Knights with 18 steals (1.1 per game) and she is averaging 1.6 assists per game as well. Roters has scored in double figures five times this season in 16 games.

The Knights, who at 4-2 are currently fourth in the NEC standings, travel to play at Sacred Heart on Saturday at 1 p.m., seeking their best NEC start through seven games since beginning 8-0 in the league in the 1992-93 season on their way to a 14-4 final NEC record and a first-place finish.
