TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team's five-game winning streak came to an end on Tuesday as they fell 12-2 to Manhattan at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex.
In the loss, the Knights (15-31-1) were held to six hits by the Jaspers (21-28) with
George Rosales and
Connor Stanton accounting for the team's two runs.
Stanton, who entered the game in the top of the ninth, made the most of his only at bat by slicing an RBI double down the right-field line. Rosales delivered an opposite-field RBI single in the second, which tied the game at 1-1.
Jacob Knight (3-2) earned the win for Manhattan allowing one run on four hits, while striking out eight. Sophomore right-hander
Peter Theodorellis (1-2) started for the Knights and provided the team with 4.2 innings of work in which he allowed two earned runs on five hits.
The Jaspers would strike for a run in their first turn at bat thanks to a solo blast by first baseman Shawn Blake. Blake finished the afternoon 3-for-4 with four runs scored.
After
Bobby Romano led off the home second with a double, Rosales came through with a two-out single to right field, which tied the game at 1-1.
The game remain tied until the fifth when the Jaspers struck for two runs on three hits to take a lead they would not relinquish.
The Burgundy and Blue return to action this weekend when they visit Central Connecticut State for a three-game series. The Knights, who are currently third in the NEC standings, trail second-place CCSU by two games.
