Men's Tennis Rolls Past Rider 6-1

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Four players won in both singles and doubles competition as the Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team picked up a 6-1 victory at Rider on Saturday.

The Knights (8-10), who for the second straight match were playing with a limited lineup of just five players, won both of the doubles matches and all five of the singles matches that were contested against the Broncs (2-8).

Sophomores Maciej Autuch, Eduardo Cabral and Andris Gudins along with junior Ivan Solans Diaz all earned wins in both singles and doubles play. Sophomore Moric Budinszky also won his singles match, dropping only one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win at the no. 4 position over Nicholas Salazer of Rider. The win was the fifth straight singles victory for Budinszky, who earned his 11th singles win of the season.

Autuch and Gudins teamed up at first doubles to win 6-2, and the duo of Solans Diaz and Cabral then also closed out a 6-2 victory at second doubles to provide the Knights the match doubles point despite the forfeit at the third spot.

Solans Diaz defeated Javier Melendez for the first singles win of the day, 6-3, 6-3, at the no. 2 spot, improving his record to 9-7 in dual matches (14-9 overall). Gudins then edged out Lysander Payano Almonte of Rider for a 6-4, 6-2 win at the no. 1 singles spot for his 11th win of the season in singles.

Autuch followed with a come-from-behind win at the no. 3 singles spot. He dropped the first set 1-6 but then battled back with a strong 6-2 in the second set and an even better 6-1 win in the third set to take the match and also secure his 11th singles win of the season.

Cabral closed out the day with a 6-4, 6-4 win at the fifth spot, capturing his team-best 15th singles win of the season.

The Knights return home for their next match Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m., facing Bryant in a battle of two of the top teams in the NEC. FDU then closes out the regular season on the road on Friday, April 12, at Temple.
