Baseball Splits Sunday's Doubleheader with Saint Peter's

TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team closed out its four-game weekend with Saint Peter's by earning a split on Sunday afternoon. The Knights dropped the opening game 5-1 before claiming a 9-1 victory in game two.

In game two, junior right-hander James Donlon (1-4) earned his first win of the season by tossing three innings and holding the Peacocks (3-36) to one run. Sophomore Chris Quijano pitched the final four innings of the seven-inning contest to net his first career save. Quijano held the Peacocks scoreless on three hits.

Offensively, Adam Frank spearheaded the Burgundy and Blue attack in the win by posting a 2-for-4 effort with two RBI and two runs scored.

Game One: Saint Peter's 5, FDU 1
The Peacocks received a complete game from Steve Epstein in game one on Sunday. Epstein scattered nine hits across his seven innings of work and held the Knights (11-30-1) to just the one earned run.

After a pair of scoreless frames, the Peacocks broke through against FDU starter Austin Crebs for three runs in the third courtesy of RBI doubles from Hunter Mason and Peter Ferony.

In the top of the fourth, three straight singles by Salvatore Monticciolo, Bobby Romano and Mike Veit loaded the bases for Nate Rush, who knocked in the Knights' lone run with a single to right field.

Epstein would escape the jam by inducing an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play. An RBI single by Andrew Connor in the home fourth rebuilt the three-run lead for Saint Peter's. The Peacocks would tack on one more with an RBI single against FDU reliever Emmanuel Corporan, which concluded the scoring.

The Knights finished with nine hits in the game as Monticciolo, Romano and Veit each finished with two.

Game Two: FDU 9, Saint Peter's 1
The FDU offense sprung to life in game two by putting up three runs in the first inning. Frank chased home the first run with a double before an Evan McDonald groundout and single by Monticciolo established the 3-0 lead.

Leading 3-1 in the fifth, Frank doubled home Tom Ruscitti before a pair of Peacock errors plated two more Knights. In the seventh, another error followed by a bases-loaded walk from George Rosales resulted in two more runs for the Knights as they built their 9-1 cushion.

The runs proved to be more than enough for the combination of Donlon and Quijano, who held the Peacocks scoreless over the final six frames.

Frank, Monticciolo and Nate Brodsky registered two hits apiece in the win.

The Knights are back in action this Wednesday, May 1 when they host St. John's at 3:00 p.m.
