PHILADELPHIA – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team ended the 2019 regular season at Temple Friday morning, falling 7-0 in the non-conference match.
The Knights (8-12) suffered defeats in two of the doubles matches to cede the first point to the Owls (13-6) and then dropped all six singles matches in straight sets.
FDU's second doubles pairing of freshman
Mehdi Dhouib and sopohomore
Moric Budinszky held a 5-3 lead in their match. The Owls, however, clinched wins in the other two doubles games to earn the point, and the two teams played to clinch to therefore leave Dhouib and Budinszky's bout unfinished.
The two teams did not play to clinch in singles, however, leaving chances for the Knights to gain back points. Temple, however, quickly earned wins in each of the first three completed singles matches to help seal their match win.
Sophomore
Maciej Autuch played the best performance for the Knights at no. 3 singles. Facing Uladzimir Dorash, he dropped the first set, 3-6, but was able battle back to force a tiebreaker in the second set. Autuch played tough in the tiebreaker with his opponent but came up short in a 6-7 (4) defeat.
Budinszky won five games in his no. 5 singles match against Juan Araoz.
The Knights will now take a five-day rest to prepare for the Northeast Conference Championships next week. The quarterfinal matches take place on Thursday, April 18, beginning at 10 a.m., at the Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J. If the Knights advance, they then play in the semifinal on Friday, with the championship match set for Saturday at 1 p.m.
