Men's Tennis Sweeps Bloomsburg To Start Road Trip

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team continued its winning ways Thursday with a 4-0 sweep of Division-II Bloomsburg University Thursday afternoon.

The Knights (6-8), who have won two straight and three out of their last four matches, played to clinch against the Huskies (2-3). FDU won two of the three doubles matches to take the first point and then swept each of the first three completed singles matches to earn the overall match victory.

Junior Ivan Solans Diaz and sophomore Andris Gudins won in both singles and doubles for the Knights. Gudins teamed with freshman Mehdi Dhouib at first doubles to defeat Lucas Pedrotti and Bernardo Abreu by a 6-4 score, improving their season record to 8-5 this spring. Solans Diaz and sophomore Eduardo Cabral then earned a 6-2 victory at third doubles over Oliver Wiesemann and Robin Luetzig of Bloomsburg to help FDU capture the doubles point.

Gudins won the first singles point for the Knights at the no. 2 position, defeating Guille Carranza 6-3, 6-1, to earn his ninth singles victory of the season. Sophomore Moric Budinszky next earned a 6-3, 6-2 straight-set victory over Wiesemann to put the Knights ahead 3-0, and Solans Diaz wrapped up the overall win with a 6-2, 6-2 win at fourth singles over Benjamin Tauber.

Solans Diaz in the process improved his dual match record to 7-4 and earned his 12th overall singles victory this season, tying Cabral for most on the team. Solans Diaz has won each of his last four singles bouts and is 6-2 in his last eight completed matches.

Three singles matches that were in the middle of the third set were halted once Solans Diaz clinched the win for the Knights. Dhouib at the no. 1 singles spot was ahead 1-0 in the third set after having come back after a first-set loss to win 6-4 in the second set.

The Knights continue their trip through Pennsylvania on Friday with a match at Duquesne at 7 p.m.
