TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team starts a long road trip with a weekend excursion through Pennsylvania and Maryland, starting with a match at Bloomsburg Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m.
The Knights (5-8) also travel out to play at Duquesne Friday night at 7 p.m., and they conclude their weekend with a Northeast Conference match at Mount St. Mary's on Sunday at 2 p.m.
ENTERING THE WEEKEND
The Knights earned their
second NEC victory of the season in dramatic fashion on Wednesday, battling down to the final match in a 4-3 win over Wagner. The Knights faced a 3-1 deficit in the match, and with three singles matches left going to a third set, the Knights rattled off three straight wins to clinch the overall victory. Sophomore
Eduardo Cabral earned the clincher at the sixth singles spot with a three-set victory, while freshman
Mehdi Dhouib and sophomore
Andris Gudins both won in singles and doubles for the Knights.
LEADERS THUS FAR
Cabral is the Knights' leader thus far with 12 singles wins this season, and junior
Ivan Solans Diaz is right behind him with a 11-6 singles record. Dhouib also has 10 singles victories this season. All three players have six singles wins in dual matches, and along with Gudins are 2-0 in conference singles matches. The doubles duo of Dhouib and Gudins is 10-5 this season, including 7-5 in dual matches at the no. 1 doubles spot and a 2-0 conference mark.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies (2-2) won each of the last two matches but have not played since defeating Division-III Ithaca College in a 6-1 match on March 14. Nagid Walle is 3-1 in four singles matches this spring, while the doubles duo of Bernardo Abreu and Lucas Pedrotti are 7-1 overall and 4-0 this spring at the no. 1 doubles spot.
SCOUTING DUQUESNE
The Dukes (7-9) have gone 3-3 in their last six matches, dropping two out of three Atlantic-10 matches this past weekend against Fordham (L, 3-4), Saint Louis (W, 6-1) and Dayton (L, 0-4). Jared Isaacs leads the team with a 11-4 record in singles this spring, and he partners with Alex Mascioli in doubles, where the duo is 8-4 this season.
SCOUTING MOUNT ST. MARY'S
The Mountaineers (2-12) had lost nine straight matches before securing a 6-1 win over St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday. In their 12 losses, the Mountaineers have secured a total of seven points. Three players have eight singles wins this season to lead the team, with Jackson Wood having a 8-3 singles record (2-0 in dual matches). Wood has paired with Parth Sharma in doubles to go 9-4 overall this season.
UP NEXT
After Sunday's match at Mount, the Knights face another NEC opponent on the road on Thursday, April 4, taking on Sacred Heart at 12 p.m. The Knights then play one last road match at Rider the following day before returning home for a NEC contest against Bryant on Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m.
