EMMITSBURG, Md. –The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team opened Northeast Conference action and earned a doubleheader split at Mount St. Mary's, dropping the opener 11-3 and winning game two 12-9 on Saturday at E.T. Straw Family Field.
With the win, the Knights (3-14-1) snapped a 14-game slide and moved to 1-1 in NEC action.
In game two, freshman
Salvatore Monticciolo delivered for the Knights in a big way by amassing six RBIs as part of a two home run performance, while redshirt freshman
Adam Frank, who totaled six hits on the day, scored four times in a 3-for-5 effort.

Justin McKay said, "I am proud of the guys for bouncing back in game two. This is a young group and we are learning with every pitch and every inning. We are excited to correct our mistakes from today and compete in game three of the series tomorrow."
Game One: Mount St. Mary's 11, Fairleigh Dickinson 3
The Mountaineers scored the first 11 runs of the contest and held that lead through five innings of play. The home team netted four runs on five hits in the second inning against FDU sophomore right-hander
Chris Quijano.
Quijano (0-2) would last 3.2 innings and surrender nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits, while walking four and striking out three. Ryan Fisher was a thorn in the Knights' side as he knocked in four runs and hit a two-run homer on the day.
The Burgundy and Blue recorded all three of their runs in the eighth inning. Freshman

Mike Veit with a single and then classmate
Ryan Glowacki scored two more with a single to centerfield.
In total, the Knights registered 10 hits compared to the Mountaineers 12. Frank led the attack with a 3-for-3 game
Game Two: Fairleigh Dickinson 12, Mount St. Mary's 9
In game two of the day, the Knights turned the tables as they jumped out to an early lead.
Frank opened the scoring with an RBI double, which chased home Veit and then freshman
Tom Ruscitti launched a two-run blast – his third of the year – to extend the lead to 3-0 through one turn at bat.
A two-run shot by Patrick Causa in the home first, pulled the Mount to within one and they would tie the game with another tally in the second.
The Knights regained the lead in the third inning by tallying four runs on three hits. With two away in the inning, senior
Bobby Romano clobbered his first home run of the season – a three-run shot, which extended the lead to 6-3. Monticciolo followed with a solo shot and the Knights led 7-3 after three.
The freshman Monticciolo was just getting started as he knocked in another run in the fifth with an RBI single and then in the ninth he broke the game open. Leading 8-6 in the top of the final frame, Monticciolo stepped in for the Knights and pulled a grand slam over the right-field fence, which established a six-run cushion.
A three-run shot by Alex Kriss cut the deficit before McKay turned to his closer,
Joey Kosowsky, who struck out all three Mountaineers he faced to nail down his second save of the season.
Freshman
Brendan Medoro (2-3) picked up the win for the Knights by tossing five innings, allowing six earned on nine hits, while striking out five.
