Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Dartmouth on Saturday

CARY, N.C. -- After beginning the day with a win over Army, the Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team's momentum was slowed as they dropped a pair of games 6-1 and 4-3 (10 innings) to Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.

Game One: Dartmouth 6, Fairleigh Dickinson 1
In game one of Saturday's doubleheader, freshman Brendan Medoro made his first start for the Knights and went four innings allowing six runs (two earned) and seven hits while striking out one and walking one.

The Knights' (2-2-1) lone run in the contest came via a fifth-inning RBI single from freshman leadoff man Nate Brodsky. Brodsky finished 1-for-3 as the Burgundy and Blue totaled four hits in the contest.

After a pair of scoreless frames, the Big Green (3-4) broke loose with four runs in the home half of the third. A one-out double and a two-out walk set the stage for the first two runs to cross on a throwing miscue by the Knights. Michael Calamari and Ubaldo Lopez followed with singles and Dartmouth lead 4-0 after three.

Three hits in the fourth would net two more runs for the Big Green, who received 4.1 innings of one-run ball from starter Nathan Skinner. A pair of walks by Skinner set the stage for Brodsky to plate the Knights' only run before a pick-off and a fly out ended the threat.

In addition to Medoro, classmate Ryan Seburn pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief and junior Justin Prevete nabbed the final two outs for the Knights.

Game Two: Dartmouth 4, Fairleigh Dickinson 3 (10 inn.)
The Big Green scratched across a run in the second inning off of FDU starter Chris Quijano in game two via a bases-loaded walk. The run would be the only one permitted by Quijano on the afternoon as the sophomore right-hander allowed one earned, two hits, while striking out five.

Still trailing 1-0 in the home sixth, the Knights took the lead with two runs on one hit. Reigning NEC Rookie of the Week, Adam Frank led off with a single and then scored on a throwing error. The second run, freshman catcher George Rosales, would cross thanks to a wild pitch by Dartmouth starter Tyler Fagler.

Leading 2-1 in the eighth, the Knights tacked on one more on a single by freshman Tom Ruscitti. Ruscitti finished 2-for-4 in the loss. Sophomore Connor Stanton came in to pinch run for Rosales and advanced into scoring position by stealing second base.

A leadoff walk and a double set the table for the Big Green in the top of the ninth. The Knights then turned to Joey Kosowsky, who earned his first career save earlier in the day in the win over Army. Kosowsky sat down the first man he faced with a strikeout but then surrendered a two-out walk and a two-run single, which tied the game at 3-3.

Facing FDU freshman Emmanuel Corporan, the Big Green would go ahead for good in the 10th after a walk, hit batsman and sacrifice bunt set the stage for a sacrifice fly. The Knights would go down in order in the bottom of the inning as Dartmouth sealed the doubleheader sweep.
