TEANECK, N.J. - The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team dropped an afternoon matchup against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks 20-6 at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex Tuesday.
The Knights return to action tomorrow, March 20 when they head to Philadelphia, Pa. for a 3:00 p.m. showdown against the La Salle Explorers.
Sophomore Tony Socci paced the Knights at the dish, going 3-4 with a run, a home run and an RBI on the afternoon. Sal Monticciolo finished with a pair of RBI's as well as two hits and a run.
RHP Emmanuel Corporan got the start on the hill for FDU, giving up two walks and no earned runs along with a strikeout over one inning in the no-decision.
Sophomore Dom Spinoso earned the loss, giving up four hits and six earned runs over two innings to move his record to 0-1 on the year.
For the fourth straight game, FDU managed to strike first, building up a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
A good eye from Brad Levinson helped him lay off the 3-2 pitch to draw a bases loaded walk that made it 1-0 before Nate Rush passed on four straight balls the next at bat to make it a two-run lead.
Unfortunately for the Knights, Lehigh would rally with an 11-run, four hit top of the second to wrangle back momentum and control of the game.
After an error on Spinoso and a bases-loaded walk made it 2-2, first-baseman Tony Gallo doubled the lead with a two-run single to make it 4-2 before Tyler Schreiner broke the game open with a three-run double off the center-field wall.
Peter Theodorellis got the nod on the mound in the bottom of the fourth, scattering six hits and seven earned runs over four innings. The sophomore also managed five strikeouts on the afternoon.
The Knight's bats continued to battle, recouping one run in both the third and fourth frames to cut the lead back down to eight before a solo home run over the right field fence from Socci made it 12-5.
The homer was the first of Socci's career for FDU.
Lehigh added to their lead in the fifth and sixth innings and retired six of the final seven FDU batters faced to end the game with a 20-6 victory.
