Francillon and Roters Garner NEC Honors

SOMERSET, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball senior Lauren Francillon was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week and freshman Maria Roters was named NEC Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Francillon helped power the Knights (3-7) to a 2-0 week and a three-game winning streak by recording back-to-back double-double games, going for 19 points and 10 rebounds in Thursday's win over Siena, followed by a 17-point, 12-rebound effort at Saint Peter's on Saturday. The Mountain Lake Park, Md., native also converted 17-of-24 field goals (70.8 percent) in the two games, making 9-of-12 shots against Siena and then 8-of-12 baskets at Saint Peter's.

The senior scored 13 of her 19 points vs. Siena in the first half to help FDU take a lead into halftime. Francillon then sank three critical baskets in the fourth quarter, starting with a layup to give the Knights a 51-48 lead with under 7 minutes left. She then tied the game after Siena took a lead with another layup to make it 53-53 before hitting a midrange jumper from the wing that provided FDU a lead for good with 3:34 remaining.

Against Saint Peter's, Francillon came off the bench and scored 8 points in five minutes during the Knights' first-quarter 16-4 run. She later scored seven fourth-quarter points to help the Knights grow their lead, achieving her second straight double-double with her 10th rebound of the game early in the period.

Since returning to the floor against Army on November 30 after missing four games, Francillon has averaged 15.4 points per game and 9.8 rebounds per game while making almost 60 percent of her shot attempts (34-of-57, 59.7 percent). She has three double-doubles in the last five games as well.

Roters played her best all-around game of the season in the Knights' victory over Siena, scoring a season-high 15 points on 5-of-7 field goals while making all three of her three-point tries and both free throw attempts as well. The freshman scored 11 points before halftime, draining all three of her shots from beyond the arc, in helping the Knights take an eight-point lead (36-28) in the break. Roters also made two big free throws with under a minute left that gave FDU a 62-58 lead and capped the game off with her third steal of the afternoon that she finished for a layup.

In the comeback at Saint Peter's, the native of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, played all but one minute and dished out a season-high four assists while adding five points and five rebounds. She sank a clutch three-pointer in FDU's big third quarter when they outscored the Peacocks 25-12 and took the lead for good, and two of her four assists led to FDU baskets in the fourth quarter to help seal the team's third-straight win.

Roters leads the Knights this season with a .455 percentage from three (10-of-22) and is the team's leader in steals per game with 1.3 per contest. For the season, she is averaging 6.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting .429 from the field, averaging 9.2 ppg and 4.3 rpg in her last six games.

This is the first time in either player's career receiving an NEC weekly honor, and it is the first NEC weekly honor awarded to a Knight since 2017. The last time FDU swept the NEC weekly awards was in 2012 when Mariyah Laury (Player of the Week) and Erika Livermore (Rookie of the Week) took home the honors.

The Knights close out non-conference play and the 2019 calendar on Sunday, December 29, at UMass Lowell in a game that tips off at 2 p.m.
