Fitzgerald Posts Seventh Shutout of Season in 0-0 Draw Against Wagner

TEANECK, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson senior Amanda Fitzgerald posted her seventh shutout of the season in the Knights 0-0 double overtime draw against Wagner. Fitzgerald recorded five saves in the contest and now has 18 career shutouts.

"I felt we had more than enough chances to win the game, but we just couldn't find the back of the net," said head coach Eric Teepe. "We still haven't lost a conference game and we need to find our game on Sunday against Mount."

The first 10 minutes of action consisted of each team looking to control possession, but both defenses held up well. The Seahawks (5-10-2, 3-4-2 NEC) recorded the first shot on goal in the 14th minute when junior Mya Donnelly rifled a shot in on Fitzgerald that was saved. FDU (7-5-6, 6-0-3 NEC) freshman Maja Skansberg created the Knights first chance of the game after the Donnelly shot when she fired a shot from outside the box in which Wagner senior goalie Delaney Beck punched out of play. On the ensuing corner kick, sophomore Lea Egner serviced the ball into fellow sophomore Christa Waterman who missed the net just wide to the right.

The Knights offense continued to apply pressure in the 23rd minute when senior Samantha Roff found Egner on a cross, but Egner's shot went left of the mark. On the following possession, senior Jackson Bennett got behind the Seahawk defense and had her shot saved in the top left corner of the goal. Wagner responded with a shot of their own in the 26th minute off the foot of junior Julia Fitzsimmons that Fitzgerald stopped.

The Burgundy and Blue got the best opportunity of the first half in the 29th minute when Skansberg serviced a corner kick into Bennett, who had an open net, but the Seahawks recorded a team save on what would have been a goal. FDU sophomore Madelyn Robbins and junior Sofia Albertsson also created quality looks that were saved by Beck at the end of the first half.

FDU junior Alexiane Marquis got the second half going with a left-footed boot on goal in the 55th minute that was stopped by a diving Beck. The Knights then earned a corner kick opportunity in the 62nd minute and Egner fired a pass to sophomore Noam Kedem who just missed the net. Each defense denied the opposing offense over the course of the next 10 minutes before FDU freshman Naemi Hausen fired a shot with her right foot that was saved by Beck.

Burgundy and Blue sophomore Isabelle Udovc created the contest's next best chance in the 85th minute when she beat a defender but sent the shot just left of the goal. Wagner created its best look of the half in the 87th minute when freshman Annie White fired a shot from the middle of the field and Fitzgerald came up with a timely save. The Knights had one more chance to end regulation, but it went out of play.

To start overtime, Robbins was aggressive and fired a shot 30 seconds into play that went just left of the mark. The Seahawks were then able to record two chances on goal with shots from senior Autumn Clark and Donnelly that Fitzgerald made critical saves on. Egner created a great chance off a pass from Udovc in the 95th minute that was saved again by Beck in the middle of the box. Marquis fired a left-footed shot in the 99th minute that missed the mark.

FDU's offense continued to be aggressive to start the second overtime with a pair of corner kicks, with the second one finding the foot of Marquis but the shot went wide. Udovc then created the contest's final quality chance in the 105th minute when she beat the Seahawk defense, but Beck again made a nice save on the ball.

For the game, the Knights outshot the Seahawks 27-11. Beck recorded nine saves in the contest. FDU created nine corner kick opportunities to Wagner's five. The Burgundy and Blue had 15 players enter the match.

The Knights will play their regular season finale on Sunday at 1 p.m., against Mount St. Mary's. FDU will honor seniors Meghan Griffin, Jackson Bennett, Amanda Fitzgerald, Samantha Roff, Julia Shea, and Stasi Torchia prior to kickoff on Sunday.
