Softball Tabbed To Finish Sixth In NEC Preseason Poll

SOMERSET, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson softball team was picked to finish sixth in the 2019 NEC Preseason Coaches Poll announced Thursday afternoon by the league office.

The Knights are coming off of a 17-26 (8-8 NEC) 2018 campaign that saw them finish with the most overall wins since 2014, as well as the most conference wins since 2015. The Knights finished tied for fourth in the NEC standings last season, with a tiebreaker favoring LIU Brooklyn and giving the Blackbirds the fourth and final NEC Tournament spot. FDU returns all but one starter from last season's roster and added seven freshmen for the 2019 season.

Sacred Heart finished as the unanimous top choice in the poll, receiving all eight first-place votes.

FDU opens up the season Saturday, February 16 when they head to Ruston, Louisiana, for a clash against Southeast Missouri State as part of a 11-game, eight-day swing through the Bayou State.
