Men's Soccer Opens Up NEC Play At Mount

TEANECK, N.J. -  The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team opens up conference play this Friday, September 27 in Emmitsburg, Maryland, when they head to Waldron Family Stadium for a clash with Mount St. Mary's.  The game kicks off at 7:00 p.m., and will be available via free live stream on NEC Front Row.

The Knights currently sit at 3-4-2 overall upon the completion of their non-conference schedule.

LAST TIME OUT

The Knights dropped their final non-conference matchup of the season against Yale on Sunday afternoon at University Stadium by a final score of 1-0.  Despite leading in total shots on goal, 4-3, the Knights conceded a goal within the first five minutes of the opening half against the Bulldogs, forcing them to play from behind against a very tough and disciplined Bulldogs squad.  The Knights pressed for the equalizer; however, Yale's quick tally proved to be the only one of the contest as they held on for the win.

ALL-TIME SERIES

The Knights hold a 14-8-3 record all-time against Mount St. Mary's, with 32 goals scored and 19 conceded in 25 matchups.  Despite the familiarity of the rivalry, the game will be the first meeting between the Knights and Mountaineers since the 2012 season.  FDU won that matchup, 2-1, and has not lost to Mount since a 1-0 loss in 2010.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS

Mount St. Mary's currently holds a 1-5-2 overall record, with their lone win of the season coming against VMI back on September 22.  Picked to finish eighth overall in the 2018 NEC Coaches' Preseason Poll, the Mountaineers are led by head coach Bryan Cunningham, who spent nearly a decade as head coach at Central Florida building up the Knights into one of the the most elite programs in the country.  Mount has scored five goals in eight games so far this season, with all five coming off the foot of a different player.  The Mountaineers feature a relatively young forward group, led by freshman Johnathan Godette, Elias Ordonez and Gavin Shirley.

AROUND THE NEC

While the overall conference standings will start to take shape as teams begin to play NEC matchups, a glimpse at how the teams have fared thus far in their non-conference matchups could provide valuable insight into how things shake out the rest of the season. Picked at second overall in the preseason coaches' poll, LIU Brooklyn is 5-3-1 and currently leads the NEC, with its only losses coming to Vermont, New Hampshire and San Diego State. Saint Francis U earned a win over Bucknell (2-0) and a 2-2 draw with Cal State Fullerton.
