Singer Collects Career-High 18 Kills in Five-Set Win Over Delaware State

EASTON, Pa. – Led by sophomore Erin Singer's career-high 18 kills, the Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team topped Delaware State in five sets (25-20, 25-9, 23-25, 18-25, 15-4) at the Lafayette Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

As a team, the Knights (2-9) totaled a season-high 60 kills to go along with a .253 attack percentage. In addition to Singer's performance, freshmen Jessica Throckmorton and Corina Beimers recorded double-doubles as Throckmorton hammered 12 kills with 12 digs and Beimers doled out 34 assists and 13 digs.

Mayah Ngundam topped the Hornets (1-13) box score with 15 kills in the loss.

Trailing 13-12 in the first set, the Knights used a 6-1 spurt to grab the lead and take control. Throckmorton and classmate Brooke Stevens each recorded a kill and fellow freshman Jaelyn Young capped the run with an ace. The Knights would score the final three points of the frame to take a 1-0 match lead.

The momentum continued on into the second set as the Knights scored the first seven points aided by three kills from Singer. The Knights' lead grew to double-digits for the first time, 17-7, and they rolled to the finish line as they scored the final six points of the frame. Junior outside hitter Emma Liller concluded the lopsided set with an ace.

Despite the comfortable second-set triumph, the Knights were unable to put the match away quietly as DSU fired back and won the third and fourth sets to force a deciding fifth.

After the Hornets logged the first point of the final frame, the Knights regrouped and kicked it back into gear by scoring four straight. Young delivered another ace and kills by Singer and sophomore Nataliya Rybakova spurred the run.

A 5-0 burst followed as the Knights broke the game open and established a 9-2 cushion. Leading 12-4, freshman Kati Quaintance served the final three points to seal the victory.

The Knights return to the court at 3:00 p.m. to take on the host Leopards in the final match of the weekend.
