Knights Drop Home Finale Against St. Francis Brooklyn

HACKENSACK, N.J. -  The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team dropped its final home game of the regular season Monday evening at the Rothman Center, falling to St. Francis Brooklyn by a final score of 58-45.  The loss moves the Knights to 15-13 on the season, including a 7-10 mark in NEC play.

FDU returns to action on Sunday, March 4th when it closes out its regular season schedule on the road against Sacred Heart.

Madelynn Comly led the Knights in scoring with 11 total to go along with six rebounds and a pair of assists.  Amina Markovic and Peniel M'Bikata each hauled down a team-high seven boards.  Markovic also posted a team-leading four assists and two blocks.

"St. Francis looks really good right now," head coach Pete Cinella said post-game.  "They came in and played a great first half that really took us out of our offense forcing a lot of turnovers.  We actually out-shot them from the field, but it was the turnovers that really hurt us.  They played really well and came in here with a good plan to take us out of our offense."

The Knights offense was slow to get going out of the gate, going 0-8 from the field for almost the entire first quarter until an Amina Markovic layup with 1:51 in the opening frame helped juice the FDU offense.  Despite their struggles from the field, the Knights knocked down 6-8 from the free-throw line to keep things close.

FDU also tried out a new starting lineup on Monday, going with Lauren Francillon, Comly, and M'Bikata as well as freshmen Kamrin Weimer and Madison Stanley in the starting five hoping to get some different looks offensively with the new combinations.

"We just wanted to change things up and get some different looks for us tonight," Cinella said.  "Amina came off the bench for us and played really well.  Sometimes a different look like that get a player going, so we just tried to figure out how we can play better."

Despite trailing 33-16 at the half, FDU came out firing to start the third quarter, carrying that momentum with them the rest of the game and outscoring the Terriers 29 25 over the final two frames.

The Knights turned the ball over 25 times Monday evening, and the Terriers scored 26 points off of those giveaways.  FDU shot 36.6% (15-41) from the field, including going 6-18 from beyond the three-point arc.  Comly and Weimer each finished with a pair of triples.

Alex Delaney led the Terriers in scoring with 15 points.

"We've never won on the road against Sacred Heart, but somehow, we have to find a way to come away with a win there next weekend," Cinella said.  "We've got to figure out a way to start playing better.  We've got to be the first team in school history to find a way to do it."
