HACKENSACK, N.J. --
Madelynn Comly tied the game at 53 with a free throw with 15 seconds left, then Katrice Dickson stepped to the line for Mount St. Mary's with five seconds remaining and made two free throws to give Mount St. Mary's a 55-53 win on Saturday afternoon.
Fairleigh Dickinson (14-9, 6-6 NEC) tied the game at 52 all on an
Amina Markovic layup off an offensive rebound. Mount St. Mary's (8-15, 5-7 NEC) retook the lead with a free throw from Caroline Hummell with 46 seconds to play.
The Knights built a nine-point lead in the second quarter and led 33-24 at the halftime break. The Mountaineers then went on a 15-3 run in the third, spanning 4:55 to turn an eight-point deficit into a four-point lead, 45-41, with 2:32 to play in the third. The Mount hit five triples during the stretch.
A pair of
Lucia Serrano-Ranz hit two free throws to get the Knights back in front, 46-45, with 37 seconds left in the quarter. That capped a 5-0 spurt by Fairleigh Dickinson.
That would be the last lead of the day for the Knights. The Mount would lead by as many as four over the final stanza. The two teams combined for 17 points in the fourth quarter.
Dickson finished with a game-high 24 points (8-of-15) to lead Mount St. Mary's. Rebecca Lee and Juliette Lawless grabbed 11 rebounds as the Mountaineers were a plus-10 on Saturday against the Knights.
Amina Markovic led the way for Fairleigh Dickinson with 10 points.
Lauren Francillon pulled down 10 rebounds. Eight different Knights scored.
The Mountaineers and Knights both made 19 field goals, but Mount St. Mary's hit eight 3-pointers to the Knights two.
Head coach Pete Cinella said after the game, "good effort by Mount. They came in here and defended very well. We did not do a good enough job of finding the open man and rebounding the basketball,"
