Volleyball Falls to Central Connecticut in Straight Sets

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team lost in straight sets to Central Connecticut 25-16, 25-11, 25-10 at the Rothman Center on Friday night.

Sophomore outside hitter Magdalena Maksimovic led the Knights (2-25, 0-11 NEC) with eight kills and seven digs, while first-year libero Jaelyn Young totaled a team-high 11 digs to go along with five assists.

For the Blue Devils (11-11, 8-3 NEC), Madelyn Kaprelyan finished with 13 kills and 12 assists, while committing just one attack error in the contest.

The Blue Devils offense was locked in from the outset and recorded a .429 attack percentage in the victory, while holding the Knights to .067.

Freshman Jessica Throckmorton gave the Knights a 2-0 lead in the first set with a kill and a service ace before the Blue Devils took control and never looked back. They answered with nine straight tallies and eventually opened up a 20-7 cushion.

The second set saw the Knights down by one, 7-6, after a kill by Throckmorton but the Blue Devils broke the game wide open with a massive run. Erin McDermott served seven straight points over that span as the Blue Devils fired off a 15-2 excursion and rolled to the 2-0 lead.

The momentum continued into the deciding frame as the Blue Devils scored the first nine points before the Knights countered with a 3-0 spurt. With Kaprelyan's serve keeping the Knights off-balance, the Blue Devils built a 15-4 advantage before closing out the match.

Tomorrow marks the final home game of 2018 for the Knights, who will honor senior Libby Bell prior to start time against Bryant. First serve is set for 5:00 p.m.
