SOMERSET, N.J. – The Northeast Conference announced its weekly awards for women's soccer, and Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer sophomore
Sofia Albertsson collected Player of the Week honors.
Albertsson totaled five points with two goals and an assist in Sunday's 6-2 victory over Wagner, which was the most points by any NEC player over the course of the week. It was also her first multi-goal effort of her career. This is the first Player of the Week honor for the reigning 2017 NEC Rookie of the Year, who won Rookie of the Week honors twice last season.
The Stockholm, Sweden, native netted the Knights' first goal of the afternoon, burying a loose ball in the box in the 21st minute to equalize. It only took her four minutes to tally her second goal of the day, lining a ball into the upper left corner off a corner kick from freshman
Madelyn Robbins to make it 3-1 Knights.
She added to her impressive day with a perfectly placed cross from right-to-left to Robbins, who scored FDU's fourth goal in the 60th minute. The assist for Albertsson was her third of the season and seventh of her career.
Albertsson improved her career totals to 13 goals and 33 points, both of which rank in the top-15 in program history through only 37 career matches.
In the NEC ranks, Albertsson is tied for sixth in the league in both goals and points.
The award for the Albertsson is the third NEC honor earned by a Knight this season, with freshmen
Noam Kedem and
Christa Waterman each receiving Rookie of the Week earlier in the year.
The Knights return to action Saturday when they play a rematch of last season's NEC championship battle, hosting Saint Francis U at 3 p.m. at University Stadium.
