Obhakhan's Goal Lifts Knights Over Robert Morris In Overtime Thriller

TEANECK, N.J. --  The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team took down the Robert Morris Colonials 1-0 in overtime on Sunday afternoon at University Stadium, their second overtime victory of the 2018 campaign. The win pushes the Knights overall record to 5-5-4 on the season, including 2-1-2 in NEC play.

Fairleigh Dickinson returns to action on Sunday, October 12, when they head to Brooklyn to take on the Terriers of St. Francis.

Ahu Obhakhan provided the late game heroics for the Knights, notching his team-leading seventh goal of the season on the OT winner in the 106'. Freshman Noah Chia picked up his second assist of the season on the tally as well. Goalkeeper Jahmali Waite made four saves for the Knights to earn the victory and pick up his third clean sheet of the season.

"It's an inspiring win for us," head coach Seth Roland said. "I thought we played well the whole game. We defended very well, we were solid, and we worked very hard to get on the scoreboard all day. Luckily, in the end, we finally did."

The OT winner from Obhakahan was a long time coming for the Knights, who attacked well and pressed the Colonials on the counter all afternoon but could not figure out a way to find the back of the net during regulation.

Fredinho Mompremier earned the first good look of the afternoon in the 16', capping off a bout of possession with a hard strike in the box; however, the effort was saved by Colonials keeper Winter Fondi. Minutes later, Joshua Ferreira earned a look of his own but pushed the shot wide.

Waite was tested at the other end as well but held firm on a header from Zac Sherman off of a late corner to preserve the tie and cap off a scoreless first-half.

Perhaps the biggest save of the game came just minutes into the second period. After collecting a ball in the box, RMU forward Kai Olguin cranked a hard strike from near point-blank range that would have gone in had a well-positioned Anthony Herbert not managed to get in the way and block it. The freshman defender calmly cleared away the loose ball and the Knights escaped unscathed.

FDU continued to press late into the second, working some pretty passing through the midfield as Daniel Lasarte and Jacob Labovitz tried to create a scoring chance; however, the RMU back line held firm, snuffing out every Knights scoring chance and keeping FDU out of the back of the net.

Olguin nearly had his revenge in the first overtime period; however, his strike sailed over the crossbar and out.

With time ticking down, the Knights finally found the OT magic they had been searching for. A long effort into the box from Chia sailed in front of Obhakhan, who managed to connect on a diving header and put home a perfectly placed strike past an outstretched Fondi on the near post to secure the fifth win of the season fro FDU in thrilling fashion.

"Just a great goal by Ahu off of a very good ball from Noah for the game winner," Roland said.  "We needed three points and we got three points, that was our focus today and we went out and got it."
