Men's Soccer Falls To St. Francis Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team was defeated on the road Sunday afternoon against St. Francis Brooklyn by a final score of 2-0.  The loss moves the Knights overall record to 5-6-4 (2-2-2 NEC).

FDU returns to action on Sunday, October 28, when they host Sacred Heart at University Stadium for Senior Day.

Senior forward Fredinho Mompremier led the Knights with five shots and two shots on goal, while sophomore goalkeeper Jahmali Waite made five saves on the afternoon.

Though it took a bit longer for the action to pick up on a blustery day in Brooklyn, the Knights were not without their chances in the first half.

Mompremier managed to get off a clean look from the top of the box in the 9'; however, Terriers keeper Andrea Lubbia was in position to make the save, the first real scoring chance for either side.

Minutes later, Waite was forced to make a save of his own at the other end, steering aside a strike from forward Yoan Assoumin.

The pace picked up in the second half as both squads adjusted to the windy conditions out on Pier One. However, neither managed to gain steady control of the game and set up consistent possession.  Instead, the Knights and Terriers continued trading sporadic counter-attacks in the hopes of finding the go-ahead goal.

Waite was forced to make another tough save in the 58' after a perfect service into the box connected with forward Ali Tounkara.  Tounkara's header bounced at the feet of Waite and nearly popped up over him and into the back of the goal; however, the sophomore keeper was able to make a sprawling swipe at the ball to keep it from going in.

Adrian Barajas nearly scored at the other end on a similar play in the 80'; however, his header was blocked away by a Terriers defender. Daniel Lasarte earned another look in the 84', but his strike sailed high of the net.

With just under three minutes left in regulation and the prospect of overtime looming, the Terriers finally managed to find the chance both sides had been searching for when a nice cross into the box off of a free kick found a waiting Assoumin, who tucked it inside the near post to make it 1-0 St. Francis in the 87'.

A late insurance goal in the game's dying moments sealed the 2-0 win.
