Head coach
Peter Cinella said on NECFrontRow.com postgame, "Lauren [Francillon] was dominant. She had been solid recently but today was by far her best game. Maddie is just solid. She does a lot of different things for us. To go 8-for-9 is impressive when no one is on you, and she hit tough shots."
Central Connecticut got it to 18, 44-26, early in the third before Fairleigh Dickinson responded with an 11-0 run that lasted close to four minutes and the score, 55-26. Francillon capped the spurt with a jumper.
The Knights' lead did not dip below 23 for the final 10 minutes and got as big as 32 at 76-44 with 2:07 left.
As a team, the Knights had 19 assists--tied season-high--on 29 made field goals and only seven turnovers-- a season-low. The Knights also had eight blocks. Defensively, the Knights forced 16 turnovers and scored 23 points off them and held the Blue Devils 3-of-19 from behind the 3-point line.
Cinella added, "I am proud of the team for being aggressive, rebound, push the ball in transition and do the things we want to do. The key for us is when we get assists we get wins. We had 19 assists on 29 shots, and we shot the ball very well."
Amina Markovic had 12 points on 5-of-15 from the field. Four other Knights scored six or eight points.
Courtney Blankenship had six points, four rebounds, and three blocks off the bench.
Natalie Zamora dished out five assists.
Ashley Forker led the Blue Devils with nine points.
The Knights conclude this current three-game homestand on Saturday against the Pioneers of Sacred Heart. Start time is 2 p.m. at the Rothman Center.
