Volleyball Swept at Saint Francis U

LORETTO, Pa. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team dropped its first of two matches in Pennsylvania this weekend, falling in straight sets at Saint Francis U (18-25, 17-25, 21-25) at Degol Arena on Friday night.

Senior Taylor Wyckoff paced the Knights (3-13, 0-2 NEC) with her second consecutive double-double, tallying 10 kills and 10 digs in the loss, while sophomore Erika Sullivan also double-doubled by matching Wyckoff's 10 kills to go along with 16 kills on the night. Freshman setter McKenna Setterlund doled out 24 assists in the match and senior libero Carly O'Sullivan tallied a team-best 18 digs.

Saint Francis (7-8, 1-1 NEC) senior outside hitter Kelly Roush, who entered the night ranked second in the NEC in kills, continued her strong campaign by hammering a match-high 20 kills -- on a .462 attack percentage -- and added 13 digs to her ledger in the victory.

In the first set, the Red Flash captured a 7-2 lead to set the tone early on. The Knights would get as close as two points, 14-12, after a pair of Wyckoff kills sandwiched a tally by sophomore Emma Liller, but the home team eventually pulled away for the seven-point win.

The second frame saw the Red Flash again run out to an early lead, 8-2 with Emily Marcinowski paving the way by delivering three of her nine kills on the night over that span. The lead ballooned to 23-11 before the Knights scored four straight aided by a pair of kills from Sullivan, however, the lead proved to be insurmountable.

The Knights prevented the early deficit in the third set and built their largest lead of the night, 8-5, with Abigail Strebig providing two kills. But the Red Flash responded by scoring 10 of the next 12 points to regain control. Trailing 23-16, the Knights fought back with five straight points to claw within two, which forced the Red Flash to use a timeout. Sullivan registered a kill and teamed up with Wyckoff for a block during the Knights' run, however, following the timeout, Roush put two balls away to swiftly close out the win for the Red Flash.

Defensively for the Knights, sophomore Annabel Reyes totaled three block assists in the loss, while Setterlund added 12 digs to her aforementioned assist total.

The Knights return to action tomorrow when they complete their Pennsylvania trip in Moon Township, Pennsylvania with a 4:00 p.m. match against Robert Morris.
