Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer and Cornell Play to Scoreless Draw

TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team and Cornell played the maximum 110 minutes on Sunday afternoon and could not decide a winner as the game ended scoreless.

"[We did] not have enough commitment to win the game today," said head coach Eric Teepe postgame. "When we wanted to play, we knocked the ball around at will. [However] we picked and chose when we wanted to play."

Both Fairleigh Dickinson (2-7-2) and Cornell (2-4-1) had chances as the two sides combined for 37 shots; unfortunately, none found the back of the net. Amanda Fitzgerald – in goal for the Knights – and Chrissy Mayer – in goal for Cornell – made seven and 13 saves respectively to keep the game scoreless throughout.

The Knights did have the majority of the chances and scoring opportunities over the 110 minutes. Fairleigh Dickinson had 22 shots on the afternoon; including multiple chances in the both the overtimes to get the win.

Inside the first ten minutes of the second half, Fairleigh Dickinson had five tries on goal. Elma Kolenovic and Sofia Albertsson had shots blocked. Albertsson then was denied by Mayer in the 53rd minute. That preceded shots from Viktorija Miseljic and Jackson Bennett that were also stopped by Mayer.

Chloe Chefero made a bid to give the Knights a lead in the 78th minute when she tried to chip everyone on the field along with Mayer in goal. Mayer, however, was able to catch the high, spinning ball on the goal line and kept it out.

The Knights had four chances to Cornell's zero in the first overtime. Miseljic and Samantha Roff had quality chances to end the game. Miseljic's header off a free kick in the 93rd minute went to the left of the near post and past the goal. Roff had a shot at the left post on a cross that she pushed wide left as she was sliding in the 97th minute.

Cornell had a pair of chances in the second overtime. The first came in the 102nd minute from Shelby Wray, but Fitzgerald made the save. Kennedy Yearby had the final chance of the game for both sides in the 108th minute.

Teepe added, "Our play is not good enough right now. We are wasting an opportunity to do what we have done in the past, and if we do not figure it out soon, it will be a quick season for us."

The Knights return to action on Friday, September 29 at 7 p.m. for the first game of Northeast Conference play at home against Central Connecticut. The will be shown live on NECFrontRow.com.
