WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team fell to top-seeded Bryant in the semifinals of the Northeast East Conference Tennis Championships by a score of 4-2 on Saturday.
The Knights started out strong, winning the doubles point.
The pair of
Jacob Whalley and
Gonzalo Quintana defeated Matt Kuhar and Luke Lorenz 6-3 at No. 1 doubles while
Pedro Carvalho and
Diogo Garnel topped Artur Jakubowski and Michael Plutt at No. 3 doubles, 7-5.
Adam Chan and
Danilo Vukotic fell to Josh Kliger and Jorge Ortiz-Garcia 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Bryant claimed the first singles point of the match. Luke Lorenz topped Whalley at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2 to even the match out at one point apiece.
The Knights took a 2-1 lead when Vukotic defeated Guido Argentini, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
The Bulldogs answered with three straight wins to take the match and secure a spot in Sunday's final.
Quintana fell to Kuhar at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-4 while Chan was topped by Kliger in the No. 2 spot. Garnel fell to Plutt 6-4, 6-4 to round out the points for the Bulldogs.
The match between Carvalho and Jakubowski at No. 4 singles went unfinished. Jakubowski took the first set 6-4 and the second set was tied 4-4.
Bryant moves on to face Saint Francis U in the final at 12 p.m. tomorrow. It is the fifth straight year the Bulldogs are playing in the championship match and they are looking to win their fourth straight title.
