Elon Tournament in North Carolina Awaits Softball This Weekend

Friday's -- vs Elon 2:30 p.m. & 4:30 p.m. (LIVE STATS, LIVE STATS)
Saturday's -- vs Presbyterian 10 a.m. (LIVE STATS) vs Norfolk State 4:45 p.m. (LIVE STATS)
Sunday's -- vs Presbyterian 9:45 a.m. (LIVE STATS)

HACKENSACK, NJ. – The Fairleigh Dickinson softball team heads down to Elon, North Carolina this weekend for five games against Elon, two, Presbyterian, two, and one versus Norfolk State.
 
The Knights will play two against Elon on Friday starting at 2:30 p.m. Saturday features a game with Presbyterian at 10 a.m. and then Norfolk State at 4:45 p.m. Sunday is an early start for the Knights with a 9:45 a.m. start against Presbyterian.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Two weekends ago, the Knights were in Chattanooga, Tennessee for the UTC Frost Classic. There the Knights went 1-4 with an 8-7 win over the hosts UT Chattanooga. The dropped games to Northwestern State, UT Martin, Saint Louis and Western Michigan.
 
SERIES SCORE(S)
Elon and Fairleigh Dickinson faced each other for the first time ever last season. The Phoenix won all three meetings. Saturday's game versus Norfolk State will be the fifth meeting all-time. The Knights are 3-1 in the previous four; none since the 2013 season. The two games against Presbyterian will be the first two ever between the Blue Hose and the Knights in softball.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Elon
The Phoenix sit at 10-8 on the season and are coming off a 7-2 loss to No. 21/24 Pittsburgh on Tuesday at home. Elon hosts a tournament last weekend where they faced Wagner for two games – won both – Iona – won 7-6 – before falling to Saint Joseph's 3-1 in the final on Sunday. The offense is led by Alaina Hall, who is hitting .392 over the first 18 games. Hall has also scored 10 times. Hannah Olson has scored the most runs (12) due to getting on a .361 clip. Three players have knocked in 10 runs; Carey Million (13), Erica Serafini (12) and Kristin Hoover (11). The pitching staff is led by Kenna Quinn, who is 4-3 with a 2.44 ERA over 51 2/3 innings. Quinn has allowed 53 hits and 22 walks so far, this season and batter at hitting .270.
 
Norfolk State
The Spartans are 5-5 so far in 2017. Norfolk State played four games down at Campbell last weekend. They went 2-2 down there with wins over Rider (4-0) and Appalachian State (3-1). The two losses were to Appalachian State (10-0) and Campbell (7-6). Devon Bitler leads the team in hitting at a .448 average and a .500 on-base. A trio of Spartans have scored five times and two are tied for the team lead with six RBI. Hunter Halford is one of two pitchers who have thrown for Norfolk State. Halford has a 1.68 ERA over 41 2/3 innings and is 4-2 on the season.
 
Presbyterian
The Blue Hose sit at 8-13 on the season. They split a doubleheader with Youngstown State on Tuesday. Presbyterian won game one 4-3 and lost game two 4-2. Two players are over .300 for the Blue Hose; Rebekka Gross (.353) and Megan Anderson (.300). Hope Rodgers and Blaire Miller lead the team with 11 RBI. Robers is also tied for the team lead with Kelsie Sanchez with eight runs scored. Alex Cook has the best ERA on the team at 1.88 but is 0-3 over eight appearances (three starts) and 22 1/3 innings. Katie Brown has started 11 games and is 5-5 with a 4.71 ERA.
 
LESS TRAVEL
This weekend's trip to North Carolina is the last major trip for the Knights this season. The longest trip after this weekend will be to go to Bryant on Saturday, April 15, which is three hours and 10 minutes away.

GETTING ON
Reanna Cervantes has reached base in each of her last seven games and has a three-game hitting streak heading into the weekend. The sophomore is also Fairleigh Dickinson's leading hitter with a .370 average.
