PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball fell to Rutgers in a Sunday afternoon matinee, 101-35, in Piscataway.
"Give credit to Rutgers, they shot better than I have seen them shoot in a game. Kamrin [Weimer] did have a solid game and looked confident on the court. We know what we have to work on and with a few days here to refocus it allows us to try to improve those areas," said head coach
Peter Cinella.
Rutgers (10-3) used a series of scoring runs in the second, third, and fourth quarters to put the game out of reach. Fairleigh Dickinson (7-3) shot 28-percent from the floor and turned the ball over 30 times as the Knights struggled with the press applied by the Scarlet Knights. The Knights did hand out 11 assists on 13 made field goals.
Kamrin Weimer led the Knights with 12 points--four 3-pointers.
Courtney Blankenship added six points, which all came from behind the arc.
One of the scoring runs for the Scarlet Knights was a 13-0 run over a two-minute span in the second quarter. Rutgers led 47-17 when Weimer stopped the run with one of her 3-pointers.
The Scarlet Knights then went on a 12-0 run in the third quarter, which pushed the lead to 39, 62-35, with 5:22 left in the period. The final run for Rutgers was a 15-0 run in the fourth to move the lead out to 97-33.
FDU shot 54-percent in the first quarter but were forced into eight turnovers and found themselves down 30-15 after the first 10 minutes. The Knights got it to a six-point game at 19-13 on a
Madelynn Comly bucket. Rutgers then outscored Fairleigh Dickinson 11-4 over the final 3:16 of the quarter.
Rutgers shot 50-percent from the field for the game and 42-percent from 3-point range. Four Scarlet Knights were in double figures; led by Tyler Scaife with 25 points.
Up next for Fairleigh Dickinson are final exams. The Knights return to the court on December 21 against Saint Peter's at the Rothman Center. The tip will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday and shown on NECFrontRow.com.
