FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- For the fifth straight season the Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team will be going to the Northeast Conference tournament. The Knights clinched a spot in the four-team field with a 3-1 win at Sacred Heart on Friday afternoon.
"We are proud of our team for making the tournament for a fifth straight season," said head coach
Eric Teepe afterward. "You can never take it for granted, and today we battled through some tough circumstances."
Fairleigh Dickinson (7-8-3, 5-1-1 NEC) got a pair of goals from
Kristina Neri and another from Viktroija Miseljic. The two markers from Neri were her first two of the season.
Neri, who had not scored since 2015 against Central Connecticut, scored in the first half on a rebound that came after
Jackson Bennett hit the crossbar in the 38th minute and then in the second half on a cross from
Sofia Albertsson in the 66th minute.
Miseljic got the Knights on the board first in the 14th minute when the freshman headed home a corner kick from
Jessi Reinhardt. It was Miseljic's sixth of the season, and it was the seventh assist for Reinhardt.
Sacred Heart (7-11, 4-4 NEC) got a late tally from Danielle Karpiej in the 83rd minute.
Fairleigh Dickinson enjoyed a 16-8 advantage in shots. Seven of those chances for the Knights made their way on goal. The win ties Teepe for the most Northeast Conference wins in program history with 24.
The Knights return to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. at University Stadium when they take on the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's.
