HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-14) win over Manhattan at the Rothman Center on Wednesday night.
Freshmen
Magdalena Maksimovic and
Nataliya Rybakova led the way with 10 kills apiece, while fellow first-year Knight, setter
McKenna Setterlund dished out 29 assists and added nine digs in the victory.
The win for the Knights (5-17) was their second over Manhattan (1-21) this season as the two teams met previously back on September 2 at the Holy Cross Invitational.
Despite the Jaspers' holding the higher attack percentage .205 to .114, the Knights took the first set and led by three or four points throughout the frame. Rybakova paved the way with six kills in the opener, while Manhattan's Sandra Lozanova finished with four. Lozanova led the Jaspers with nine kills on the night.
In the second set, with the Jaspers leading 18-16, the Knights rattled off four straight points, highlighted by a Maksimovic service ace. Senior
Taylor Wyckoff helped the Knights close out the frame by adding a kill and service ace across the remaining points as the home team moved to 2-0 in the match.
A balanced attack in the third set, which saw the Knights lead by as many as 12 points, 24-12, featured three kills apiece from Wyckoff, Setterlund and sophomore
Erika Sullivan as the Knights closed out the sweep.
Wyckoff finished with nine kills and seven digs in the match, while Maksimovic recorded her second double-double of the season by adding 12 digs to her 10-kill effort. Senior libero
Carly O'Sullivan also recorded 12 digs in the win.
The Knights return to Northeast Conference play for their next match which is set for this Friday, October 20 at 5:00 p.m. against Sacred Heart at the Rothman Center.
