Markovic's Double-Double Helps Women's Basketball Beat LIU Brooklyn

HACKENSACK, N.J. – Amina Markovic had her second career double-double and two others were in double figures to help Fairleigh Dickinson top LIU Brooklyn 64-46 on Saturday afternoon.

Markovic finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds and five assists on the afternoon. Kiana Brown also had 14 points and added six assists – the six helpers tie a season-high. Madelynn Comly was the third Knight in double figures with 10 – her third straight game in double figures.

Head coach Peter Cinella said post game, "Amina was absolutely huge today. That was her best all-around game I have seen from her. She took her time with her moves and that shows in her assist total."

Fairleigh Dickinson (4-14, 2-5 NEC) never trailed in the contest and led for 37:40 of a possible 40 minutes against LIU Brooklyn (2-16, 1-6 NEC).

The Knights led by five at halftime – 33-28 – after a mini 5-0 scoring run to break a 28-28 tie over the last 1:06 of the second quarter. The Blackbirds got the first bucket of the quarter then the Knights answered with eight straight to make it 57-41. Natalie Zamora and Brown hit three-pointers during the run. Brown's was at the end of the shot clock and off-balance right in front of the Fairleigh Dickinson bench.

The lead got to as many as 20 in the fourth on a Peniel M'Bikata layup at the 3:49 mark. Victoria Powell scored the final bucket for LIU Brooklyn with 1:26 left to make it 64-46.
