Volleyball Falls To Rider On The Road

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to Rider on Wednesday night by a score of 3-0.
 
The Broncs won the first set 28-26, the second set 25-13 and the third set 25-15. The loss drops the Knights to 0-15 while Rider improves to 6-8.
 
After tying things up 4-4, the Knights scored another four points to take an 8-4 lead. The Broncs tied things at 10 before Fairleigh Dickinson scored six straight points to take a 16-10 lead. The Knights continued to lead the set until Rider eventually tied things at 24. Erika Sullivan (Elk Grove, Calif./Pleasant Grove) added a point for the Knights but the Broncs quickly tied things again at 25 and 26. The Broncs scored two points to close out the set at win it 28-26.
 
The second set remained close with the Knights in the lead the whole time until Rider took a 10-9 lead. The Knights tied the set at 10 but the Broncs scored five straight to open up a 15-10 lead. The Knights would only score three more points in the set and Rider closed things out on a 6-0 run.
 
The Knights fell behind 7-1 to start out the third set. Fairleigh Dickinson cut the lead to five points several times but that is the closest the team would come to the Broncs. An Annabel Reyes (Teaneck, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) kill cut the Rider lead to 21-14 but the Broncs scored four in a row, winning the set and the match.
 
Rider hit .230 compared to Fairleigh Dickinson's .019.
 
Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and Erika Sullivan (Elk Grove, Calif./Pleasant Grove) each had seven kills to lead the way for the Knights. Kaitlyn Griffin had 11 kills for the Broncs.
 
The Knights return to action this weekend in Brooklyn to open conference play. On Saturday, the Knights face LIU Brooklyn before playing St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday.
