Volleyball falls to Boston College, RIder

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team dropped a pair of road contests to close out the UMass Lowell/Boston College Tournament.
 
The Knights lost the first match of the Saturday double header to host-team Boston College by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-17.
 
In the second match of the day, Fairleigh Dickinson lost to Rider by scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-22.
 
In the first set, the Eagles scored the first five points and held on to a lead the entire time. Boston College went on another five-point run to extend its lead to 14-3. The Knights were able to chip away at the lead but only brought the score within eight points, 20-12. The Eagles closed out the first set with five points in a row.
 
The second set started out fairly even. The Knights were only down one point, 4-3, until the Eagles notched seven points in a row to break open the score to 11-3. The Knights could not bring the score close than nine points for the remainder of the match. Boston College ended things with a kill from Julia Topor.
 
The third and final set was the closest of the match against Boston College. The teams traded points and the game was tied 8-8 before the Eagles started to break things open. Boston College added eight consecutive points to take a 16-8 lead. An Erika Sullivan (Elk Grove, Calif./Pleasant Grove) kill closed the gap to 19-15 before the Eagles scored five points in a row. Boston College closes things out on a kill from Topor.
 
The second match of the game, Rider came out to score the first four points. The Knights kept the score close but could not take a lead over the Broncs. Fairleigh Dickinson brought the scored five points in a row to cut Rider's lead to 21-20 and eventually tied the set 22-22. The teams traded points before the Broncs finished the set with two straight points.
 
The Knights came out to score the first four points of the second set which included an ace from Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and a kill from Rebecca Sabol (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman). The Broncs tied things up 6-6 and the game saw several more ties. Rider scored three points in a row to take a 23-19 lead and finished off the Knights with kills from Jennifer Borio and Ryan Ackermann.
 
The Broncs gained momentum to start the third set and brought the score to 7-2 quickly. The Knights chipped away and got within one point to bring the score to 19-18. Fairleigh Dickinson tied the game, 22-22, but the Broncs score three straight points to end the set and the match.

Freshman Kirsten Trabert was named to the All-Tournament team. She collected 67 assists in the three-game span.
 
The Knights return to action at home on Wednesday, Sept. 14 against La Salle. The game will be streamed live on NECFrontRow.com.
