Knights Drop Road Contest at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Four first half goals from Colgate proved to be enough for the Raiders to get the win on Thursday night, 5-1, over Fairleigh Dickinson.

"We played well in the opening 10-12 minutes. Then we made a few mistakes and gave up three identical goals. We were not staying aware and in tune," said head coach Eric Teepe postgame. "We did do a good job of continuing to battle in the second and I thought we controlled the play in the second half. But, we have to a better job with our possession in the final third."

Colgate (2-0-2), who won at LSU on Monday, got on the board through Sarah Coy  her first of the season in the 17th minute. Four minutes later, Abby Sotomayor struck for the first of her two goals to make it 2-0.

Sotomayor's second goal came in the 35th minute off a pass from Mara Cosentino. Caroline Parsons made it 4-0 in the 43rd minute on a header from a cross by Eliza Doll. It was Doll's third assist of the opening half.

Fairleigh Dickison (1-3) got on the board in the second half through Elma Kolenovic (Manhattan, N.Y./NYC Lab). The sophomore headed in a corner from Jessi Reinhardt (Friedberg, Germany/Burggymansium) in the 66th minute. Kolenovic headed it in from 16 yards out for her fourth goal of the season. Meghan Griffin (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) had three shots on the night, one tested Kelley Chiavaro (2-0-2) in the Raider goal.

Natalie Kozlowski made it 5-1 Raiders with her first of the season in the 81st minute. Kozlowski played the ball to herself off a pass from Sarah Coy at the penalty spot and beat Fitzgerald, who got a hand on it.

Colgate held a 21-12 shot advantage on the night. The Raiders put 14 of those 21 shots on goal. Amanda Fitzgerald (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) (1-3) made a season and career-high nine saves.

The Knights return to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Hartford for a 2 p.m. kick-off against the Hawks.
