After playing Bradley on Friday, the Knights will conclude the tournament with a 1 p.m. (12 p.m. CST) match on Sunday against Evansville.
Bradley (0-1-1) and Evansville (1-1-0) are both members of the Missouri Valley Conference. This is FDU's first all-time meeting with both programs.
The Knights enter the weekend off a solid 4-0 victory over Howard. FDU hosted the Bison on Tuesday night and scored early – the first coming in the seventh minute – and often. The Knights were also strong defensively, posting their first shutout of the season. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Sebastian Ferreira (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) stopped the only shot on goal and the FDU defense – from front to back – limited the Bison to just seven shots. Howard had only three shots in the second half; none of those were on goal.
Offensively, junior
Casey Abelein (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandermeulen) was credited with a pair of assists, including a beautiful header to feed senior
Enver Caymaz (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) on FDU's first goal. Eight Knights were credited with a point in the match and each goal was scored by a different player. In addition to Caymaz,
Javen Palmer (London, England/Sedgehill),
Ahu Obhakhan (Drogheda, Ireland/St. Joseph CBS) and
Wojciech Piwowarczyk scored goals.
After this weekend's tournament the Knights will return to action at University Stadium on Saturday, September 10 against Iona.
