HACKENSACK, N.J. - Fairleigh Dickinson softball wraps up the month of April with a pair of home Northeast Conference doubleheaders. The Knights will host Wagner on Saturday and Bryant on Sunday.
Fairleigh Dickinson dropped its non-conference finale at Manhattan on Tuesday by the score of 7-3 and is 11-27 on the season.
Kellie Natham (Arcadia, Calif./Maranatha) drove in all three runs for the Knights. The freshman now has 21 on the season -- second on the team.
SERIES SCORE
Wagner holds a 21-9 edge over Fairleigh Dickinson all-time. The Knights, however, have taken the last five in the series and eight of the last ten. Bryant owns a 9-5 record against Fairleigh Dickinson in a series that dates to 2009. The teams have split the last four meetings.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Wagner -- The Seahawks come in winners of its last four games -- sweeps of Iona and Sacred Heart -- and sit at 18-23 overall and 3-7 in the Northeast Conference. Karen Prihoda and Brianna Tredway lead the offense for the Seahawks. Prihoda leads in average at .315 and Tredway is second at .310. The two are also first and second in runs scored at 25 and 24 respectively. McKaleigh Goodale leads the pitching staff in ERA at 2.72 and wins with eight.
Bryant -- The Bulldogs will host Central Connecticut on Saturday before making the trip to Hackensack on Sunday to face the Knights. Bryant beat UMass Lowell on Wednesday to snap a seven-game losing streak and sit at 7-33 overall and 5-7 in NEC play. Elle Madsen paces the offense for the Bulldogs with a .309 average, .387 on-base and a .427 slugging percentage. She also leads the team in hits and runs. Madsen is also the top arm on the team. Over 101.1 innings, Madsen sports a 3.25 ERA -- team-best -- and five wins -- team best.
FOOD DRIVE
The Fairleigh Dickinson softball team is holding a food drive to benefit the Teaneck community. A collection bin will be on hand at FDU Softball Field for spectators to donate any non-perishable food items. More information can be found here.
SENIOR DAY
Before the game on Saturday, the Fairleigh Dickinson softball program will honor four seniors;
Emma Deluca (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township),
Courtney Slye (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley),
Loren Stavrou (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson Classical) and
Madelaine Wilen (Bakersfield, Calif./Ridgeview). The ceremony will start at approximately 12:45.
ROLLING ALONG
Freshmen,
Reanna Cervantes (Upland, Calif./Upland),
Holly Mercier (Corona, Calif./Santiago) and
Kellie Natham (Arcadia, Calif./Maranatha) are both on impressive streaks at the moment. Cervantes has a hit in eight straight contests -- longest of career -- and is hitting .391 over that span. Mercier has reached base safely in nine straight games -- longest of her young career. Natham has driven in at least one run in three straight contests, including all three against Manhattan.
NEC STANDINGS
Entering the weekend the Knights sit at 4-4 in the NEC and are in a tie for fourth place with Central Connecticut. Both Bryant and Wagner are behind the Knights in sixth and seventh respectively. Fairleigh Dickinson is one game behind Robert Morris for third.
