Box Score FARMVILLE, Va. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team fell to Big South member Longwood on Saturday afternoon by a score of 6-3. The Knights (1-4) and Lancers (6-4) will wrap-up the three game series with a game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The Knights and Lancers were tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, but Longwood plated three runs against freshman pitchers Kyle McLaughlin and
Tim Quinn (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East).
Freshman Chris Kachmer started for the Knights and allowed three runs on four hits over five innings. He struck out five and walked five batters.
Offensively, the Knights plated a run in the top of the first on and RBI single by senior
John Giakas (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville).
In the fifth inning, freshman catcher
Evan McDonald (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm) singled in a run and Giakas drove in the final FDU run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.
Junior
Matt McCann (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro ) and redshirt junior
Ryan Brennan (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville) each collected two hits.
As a team the Knights had four stolen bases.
Jon Peterson earned the win in relief for the Lancers with a scoreless inning of relief.
The series will conclude with a single game at 1 p.m. om Sunday.
