Box Score QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's scored five in the second inning and held Fairleigh Dickinson to four hits over the six innings.
St. John's (11-12) struck for five runs in the bottom of the second inning after scoring in the bottom of the first. The Red Storm drew three walks to aid the effort. Brittany Garcia singled to left field to drive in a pair to make it 4-0 St. John's. Carly Williams followed by hitting the first pitch of the at-bat off the wall in right-center field that plated two more and gave the Red Storm a 6-0 lead.
Fairleigh Dickinson (2-11) had its chances to score, with the first coming in the top of the fourth. The Knights got a lead-off single to left for
Kellie Natham (Arcadia, Calif./Maranatha). The freshman then stole second to get into scoring position -- second of the season.
Reanna Cervantes (Upland, Calif./Upland) got aboard by get hit by a pitch. Madison Morris then struck out
Holly Mercier (Corona, Calif./Santiago).
Stephanie Collins (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) then sacrifice bunted Natham and Cervantes up a base.
Madison Lerma (Escondido, Calif./Escondido) flew out to Rericha -- the St. John's centerfielder -- in left center.
The Knights got an one-out walk from Natham and then a Cervantes doubled down the leftfield line in the top of the sixth. Morris, who improved to 3-0 with the shutout, got Mercier to pop out to third and struck out Collins swinging.
St. John's walked-off in the bottom of the sixth.
Loren Stavrou (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson Classical) relieved
Cheryl Lopez (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) (2-5) and allowed Hannah Anderson to get on with a single to the shortstop. Garcia came up and doubled to center that drove in Anderson from first for the winning run.
The Knights return to action tomorrow for their second game of the St. John's Invitational when they take on Howard at 3 p.m.
