Softball Splits Doubleheader against Harvard and Loyola Marymount

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LOS ANGELES - The Fairleigh Dickinson softball team split a doubleheader against Harvard and Loyola Marymount on Sunday. The Knights' offense was controlled in the first game against Harvard -- a 6-1 loss -- but it bounced back against the Lions -- a 12-11 win -- in game two.

Game 2
Fairleigh Dickinson scored three in the first and seven in the second to take an early 10-0 lead on Loyola Marymount.

Reanna Cervantes (Upland, Calif./Upland) hit a three-run home run on the first pitch she saw to give the Knights the lead. It was the first home run of Cervantes' career. The freshman finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBI.

The seven-run second followed. Madelaine Wilen (Bakersfield, Calif./Ridgeview) singled to center to bring in Courtney Slye (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley) to get the inning started. Kellie Natham (Arcadia, Calif./Maranatha) doubled two batters later to drive in Wilen and Cheryl Lopez (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville). Hollier Mercier was hit by a pitch that allowed a run to score and then Stephanie Collins (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) -- the next batter -- walked to bring in Natham. Madison Lerma (Escondido, Calif./Escondido) singled to left and Cervantes scored. Mercier then scored on an illegal pitch to conclude the outburst.

Wilen finished with four hits and RBI from the leadoff spot in the order. Lerma had three hits and Mercier had two for the Knights.

Loyola Marymount (14-8) got a run in the bottom of the second and added four more in the third inning to make it an 11-5 game. Alex Fine drove in six runs for the Lions in the game -- three in the third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

The Lions scored three more times in the fifth to make it cut the Knights' lead to 11-8. Fairleigh Dickinson (2-8) added a run in the top of the sixth -- a Wilen RBI triple -- before Loyola Marymount scored twice in the sixth to make it 12-10. Fine doubled to center and then Stephanie Maciel singled to drive in the second run of the inning.

The Knights did not score in the top of the seventh then Lerma, who picked up the save, got Stephanie Maciel to groundout with the bases loaded to get the win. That came after the Lions scored earlier in the inning and loaded the bases on a walk, an intentional walk and a single with two outs.

Lopez (2-3) picked up the win after going four innings. Lerma pitched two and a third innings in relief.

The Knights return to action on Tuesday with another doubleheader against Harvard and Loyola Marymount. First pitch against the Crimson is set for 1 p.m. with the start time against the Lions is slated for 5 p.m. eastern.

Game 1
Harvard scored in two innings; three times in the second and three in the fourth to beat Fairleigh Dickinson 6-1 in the Knights' third game of the Loyola Marymount Tournament.

Morgan Macchiarulo singled to left to drive in Haley Davis to get Harvard (7-5) on the board. Meagan Lantz followed and hit a two-run home run that brought home Macchiarulo to make it 3-0 Crimson.

It was a similar story in the fourth inning for Harvard. Davis singled up the middle to bring in Dallas Hogan. Lantz came up once again with Macchiarulo on base and hit her second home run of the game to make it 6-0 Harvard.

Reanna Cervantes (Upland, Calif./Upland) got the Fairleigh Dickinson (1-8) on the board in the sixth with a sacrifice fly that brought home Francine Villalobos (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley), who went 2-for-3. Cervantes now has four RBI this season, which is second on the team.

Kellie Natham (Arcadia, Calif./Maranatha) went 1-for-3 for the Knights to extend her hitting streak to seven games and sits at a team-leading .440 average.

Cheryl Lopez (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) (1-3) pitched the full six innings for the Knights. The junior struck out a season-high four batters and allowed six runs over the six innings. Taylor Cabe picked up the win for Harvard after pitching five scoreless innings.
