Men's Basketball Visits Wagner on Thursday for Battle of First Place Teams

Tonight's Game:  First place is on the line as the Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team travels to Wagner for a Thursday night game at the Spiro Center in Staten Island.  The Knights (11-10, 7-3 NEC) and Seahawks (14-7, 7-3 NEC), along with Mount St. Mary's, are part of a three-way tie for first place in the Northeast Conference entering play on Thursday.

Series History:  This is 99th all-time meeting between the Knights and the Seahawks with the series tied 49-49.  Wagner has won nine straight in the series, including all four meetings under head coach Greg Herenda.  The Knights have not won at Wagner since February 5, 2009.
 
Best Month in a Decade:  The Knights finished the month of January with a 7-3 record in the Northeast Conference and a 7-3 record for the month.  It marks the best calendar month for the program since February 2006 when FDU went 8-2.
 
Share of First Place:  The Knights enter February with a share of first place in the NEC at 7-3.  It is the first time FDU has had at least a share of first in the conference during February since the team finished the 2005-06 regular season in first place with a 14-4 record.
 
Over .500 on the Season:  FDU's 88-85 victory over LIU Brooklyn on Saturday pushed the Knights season record to 11-10, one game over .500.  It marks the first time the program has had a winning percentage above .500 this late in the season since 2006-07.  That season the Knights finished 14-16 overall, but were over .500 as late as February 23.
 
Game Winners for Anderson:  Sophomore Darian Anderson (Washington, D.C./St. John's College ) connected on the game winning shot in both of FDU's wins last week.  The Washington D.C. native hit a jumper with 27 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Knights the lead for good against Saint Francis U on Thursday and then followed that by sinking the game-winner with 17 seconds left against LIU Brooklyn on Saturday.   Anderson averaged 17.5 points, 6.0 assists and made all 11 of his free throws last week.
 
Climbing the National Rankings:  The Knights rank among the top teams nationally in several statistical categories this season, particularly when it comes to steals and turnovers.  FDU ranks 12th in the nation in turnovers forced at 16.43 per game and 18th in steals per game at 8.4.  The team is also 24th in total steals (177) and 20th in turnover margin (3.3).  The Knights also rank among the top-25 percent of teams in scoring (88th at 77.6 ppg) and field goal percentage (80th at 46%).  Individually, Darian Anderson (Washington, D.C./St. John's College ) ranks 33rd in steals per game (2.0) and 35th in total steals (42).

FDU's Edge:  Freshman Darnell Edge (Saugerties, N.Y./Saugerties) has seen his minutes rise sharply over the last six games and culminating with his first career start against LIU Brooklyn on Saturday, January 30.  His increased playing time was highlighted by his breakout 20-point performance against Saint Francis U on Thursday, January 28.  Edge came off the bench and played a career-high 26 minutes while connecting on 7-of-11 from the field and four-of-seven from beyond the arc.  Over his last six contests he is averaging 8.6 points per game.
