Box Score 2 ELON, N.C. - The Fairleigh Dickinson softball dropped a pair of games top the Phoenix of Elon on Sunday.
Game 1
Elon scored twice in the bottom of the first and third innings to take game one of the doubleheader.
The Phoenix had three different players drive in a run and Kayla Caruso pitched seven innings to pick up her third win of the season.
Fairleigh Dickinson (0-3) got on the board in the in sixth innings when
Kellie Natham (Arcadia, Calif./Maranatha) drove in her third run of the season. Natham drove in
Madison Lerma (Escondido, Calif./Escondido), who got on via an error, to make the score 4-1 Elon (6-7).
Elon then answered in the bottom half with a run of their own. Emily Roper hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Alania Hall to make it a 5-1 Phoenix lead. Stavrou got the last two outs of the inning to strand a runner at third.
Loren Stavrou (Long Beach, Calif./Wilson Classical) (0-1) went the distance for the Knights. The senior stuck out four over six innings and allowed five runs on seven hits.
Game 2
Elon (7-7) scored three runs in the first, one in the second and one in the third to build a 5-0 lead on Fairleigh Dickinson (0-4).
Then in the top of the fourth, Fairleigh Dickinson (0-4) scored three runs to make it a 5-3 game.
Madelaine Wilen (Bakersfield, Calif./Ridgeview) started the inning with a single and then advanced to second on a
Kellie Natham (Arcadia, Calif./Maranatha) single through the left side.
Courtney Slye (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley) then knocked in Wilen on single to right field. Natham tried to score when the Elon right fielder made an error but was thrown out. Slye advanced to third on the play.
Slye was brought home on a
Reanna Cervantes (Upland, Calif./Upland) sacrifice fly to center field.
Emma Deluca (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) singled to short stop.
Baylee Ports (Shaftsbury, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) ran for Deluca and then scored on
Francine Villalobos (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) single to left field.
Elon quickly got the lead back to four in the bottom half of the frame. The Phoenix got an RBI single from Hannah Olson to make it a 6-3 game and then Olson came around score on a Knight error to make it 7-3 Elon.
The Knights got one back in the top of the sixth inning when Cervantes and Hollie Mercier got on and advanced on an Elon error. Cervantes then scored on a pass ball and Mercier advanced to third. Villalobos popped out, Lerma walked and
Cheryl Lopez (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) stuck out swinging to end the threat.
Elon answered once again, this time, the Phoenix got a two-run home run from Kristin Hoover in the bottom of the sixth.
Ports (0-1) took the loss for the Knights. The freshman went three innings and allowed five runs on six hits.
