Box Score HACKENSACK, N.J. -
Kelsey Cruz (Chester, Va./Lloyd C. Bird),
Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) and
Brianna Thomas (Baldwin, N.Y./St. John the Baptist Diocesan) all scored in double figures to lift Fairleigh Dickinson to a 75-67 win in the home finale. The Knights swept the season series with the Seahawks with the win.
"We turned it around in the third quarter and started to run the offense. Brianna [Thomas] came up with some big plays, that was one of Kelsey's best quarters and the play of
Amina Markovic (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) helped us get stop after stop on defense", said head coach
Peter Cinella.
"Anytime we can get additional players going it is a plus. We got [Brianna] going and hopefully, Amina or Anastasia give us eight to ten points."
Kesley Cruz led the Knights with 22 points (8-of-20), added five rebounds and dished out three assists. It is the senior's 14th time scoring at least 20 points this season.
Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) had 15 points and 11 rebounds to record her 51st career double-double.
Brianna Thomas (Baldwin, N.Y./St. John the Baptist Diocesan) had 11 points, four rebounds and two steals.
Fairleigh Dickinson (11-18, 8-8 NEC) held a two-point advantage heading into the halftime intermission. Cruz had nine points off the bench in the opening 20 minutes.
Wagner (5-22, 3-13 NEC) took the lead early in the third quarter and extended it to as many as seven at 41-34 with 4:23 to play in the quarter. Fairleigh Dickinson would cut the lead to four -- 47-43 -- heading into the final 10 minutes when
Kiana Brown (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) hit a jumper in the lane with 58 seconds left.
The Knights took the lead for good when Brown stole the ball and found
Amina Markovic (Brooklyn, N.Y./Midwood) on the break to make it 49-47 at the 7:12 mark of the fourth. Markovic finished with a career-high nine points and grabbed seven rebounds. A layup from
Brianna Thomas (Baldwin, N.Y./St. John the Baptist Diocesan) -- that Markovic assisted on -- gave the Knights a 10-point lead at 61-51 with 3:34 left.
Wagner tried to make a comeback in the final minutes, but
Natalie Zamora (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X), Cruz and Livermore hit nine free throws in the final 63 seconds to secure the win.
Jasmine Zwajei scored 33 to lead all scorers, grabbed 13 rebounds, five assists and four steals on the night. Sofia Roma added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Seahawks.
