MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team fell to Robert Morris 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. It was the second time the Colonials have swept the Knights this season.
With the loss, the Knights fall to 3-25 overall and 1-9 in the Northeast Conference. The Colonials improve to 12-14 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
Robert Morris showed dominance against the Knights, winning the first set 25-14, the second set 25-11 and the third set 25-17.
The Knights took a 4-1 lead in the first set following kills from Taylor Wyckoff (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont), Annabel Reyes (Teaneck, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy), Carly O'Sullivan (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) and Caroline Laton (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon). The Colonials tied things up, 6-6 on a Leah Dunivan kill. The set was tied again at seven and nine before Robert Morris took control and built up a lead. The Colonials outscored the Knights 9-1 to end the set and go up 1-0 in the match.
After exchanging points for several plays, the second set was tied, 4-4, before the Colonials scored four in a row to take an 8-4 lead. They continued to add to their lead and eventually built up a 21-9 lead. The Knights added two more points before Robert Morris closed the set out with three kills in a row from April Krivoniak, Arden Fisher and Deja Tamlin.
The third set would be the closest between the two teams. Fairleigh Dickinson used Reyes and Wyckoff kills as well as a Wyckoff and O'Sullivan block to take a 3-0 lead over the Colonials. Robert Morris chipped away and tied the set up at five. The set was tied again at seven and eight before the Colonials started to build up a lead. Robert Morris took a 23-14 lead before the Knights scored three in a row to cut the score to 23-17. Fairleigh Dickinson could not turn that momentum into more points and the Colonials scored the final two points to win the set and that match.
Robert Morris hit .300 on the day compared to Fairleigh Dickinson's .059. The Colonials also recorded 12 service aces on the day.
Laton had eight kills to lead the Knights. Wyckoff had six kills and two blocks while Kirstin Trabert (Corona, Calif./Norco) recorded 11 assists and Savanna Wray (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) had 11 digs.
The Knights are back in action tomorrow at Saint Francis U. Game time is set for 2 p.m. in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
