Men's Soccer Blanked by Blackbirds

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – In their final road match of the season, the Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team fell 2-0 to LIU Brooklyn on Friday night at LIU Field.

With the loss, Fairleigh Dickinson (3-9-3, 1-2-3 NEC) remains in the fourth and final NEC Tournament spot but will need a victory over Sacred Heart in their regular season finale next Sunday to secure a berth. The Blackbirds (10-4-2, 4-1-1 NEC) currently sit in second place in the NEC standings.

LIU had a large advantage in shots on Friday night, out-firing the Knights 19-7 overall and 11-3 in on-goal attempts.

Rasmus Hansen supplied all of the offense in the game and added to his NEC-leading goal total with a pair of goals on the night. Hansen, who entered the game ranked 22nd in the country in goals scored, now has 11 tallies on the campaign.

Just under two minutes into play, Enver Caymaz (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) registered the first shot of the game but his attempt was snared by LIU goalkeeper Logan Keys. Keys finished with three saves on the night.

Julian Murillo Toro (Cali, Colombia/Francisco de Pio XII) started in goal for the Knights and did his best to turn away the dangerous Blackbirds' attack, which ranks in the top five nationally in points scored. The Knights' netminder stopped two-straight shots by Hansen before the Blackbird striker netted the game's first goal.

At the 17:36 mark, Hansen finished a cross from Filip Nordstrom, which gave the Blackbirds a 1-0 edge.

The Knights tried to answer late in the half but David Bokumabi (Oberthal, Germany/Saarbrucken)'s header was grabbed by Keys and the Blackbirds carried their one-goal lead into the break.

Murillo Toro made two more saves in the second half before Hansen came through again. The Blackbirds were awarded a set piece from 25-yards out and Hansen neatly hooked his shot inside of the left post for a 2-0 lead with 16:30 to go.

The Knights only earned one more scoring chance over the remainder of the contest as the Blackbirds held on for the win.

Murillo Toro finished with a season-high nine saves in the loss and saw his record drop to 2-3-2 on the season.

The Knights return home for their final two regular season contest of the season beginning with the annual senior night this Tuesday, November 1 against Army. Start time is set for 7 p.m. at University Stadium.
