Men's Soccer Falls 1-0 to Army in Non-Conference Finale

TEANECK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team dropped its final non-conference match of the season 1-0 to Army West Point at University Stadium on Tuesday night.

Prior to the match, the Knights (3-10-3) honored their three seniors Enver Caymaz (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes), Simon Hernandez (Caracas, Venezuela/South Kent School) and Brian Hochstuhl (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) for their hardwork and dedication to the men's soccer program.

In the third ever meeting between the two squads, the Knights were outshot 10-3 on the night as the Black Knights' (9-6-2) held down the home team's offense for most of the contest.

In the 75th minute, Army's leading scorer Rex Epps hammered home the game-winner for his 10th goal of the season.

On his senior day, Hochstuhl earned the start in goal for the Knights and made one save over his 45 minutes of action.

Caymaz delivered the Knights' first chance of the match but his long-distance header was easily handled by Army netminder Justin Stoll. Stoll finished with two saves in the match before giving way to Christian Nolasco at intermission.

Army's best scoring chance of the first stanza resulted in an offside call after one of their forwards knocked in a cross from the goal line.

With just under three minutes to play in the opening half, Caymaz squared up a shot from 18-yards out that grazed off of the post and the game headed to the break knotted at zero.

Fairleigh Dickinson redshirt freshman goalkeeper Sebastian Ferreira (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) entered the match at halftime and was immediately tested by a dangerous set piece for the Black Knights. Tanner Vosvick put his shot on net but Ferreira swiftly scooped it up.

Both teams struggled to generate offense over the majority of the second half until Epps broke the scoreless drought at the 74:40 mark with his tenth tally of the season. Epps was on the receiving end of a short cross from teammate Trase Stapley and he immediately knocked it past Ferreira from close range for the game-deciding goal.

Army prevented the Knights from attempting a single shot over the final 45 minutes of action as they secured the victory.

Caymaz was responsible for two of the Knights' three shots with Patrick Nuss (Fort Worth, Texas/Fossil Ridge) registering the third.

The Knights return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. for a crucial NEC match against Sacred Heart at University Stadium. A victory would send Fairleigh Dickinson back to the NEC Tournament for the first time since 2012. The Knights also could still earn a berth with a draw if the Bryant/Central Connecticut State also ends in a draw.
