NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Fairleigh Dickinson and Central Connecticut had chances to win the game but neither side could put the deciding goal away as the teams played to a 1-1 tie on Sunday afternoon in New Britain.
Central Connecticut (2-9-3, 1-1-1 NEC) had chances to win the game in overtime but
Julian Murillo Toro (Cali, Colombia/Francisco de Pio XII) made a stop in the 103rd and 106th minutes to keep the game tied. Andres Muriel then put a shot over the crossbar inside the final minute when he was in behind the Knight backline.
Muriel also hit the crossbar in the 79th minute off a Knight turnover.
Fairleigh Dickinson (3-8-3, 1-1-3 NEC) had four shots in the first overtime period but all were off target.
Central Connecticut broke through with two minutes to play in the first half when freshman Alders Muriel Albino's shot deflected in off
Quentie Kyeremateng (Grand Prairie, Texas/South Grand Prairie) and past Jullian Murillo Toro, who was diving in the opposite direction. It was Albino's second of the season.
The Blue Devils used their possession to get eight shots off in the opening 45 minutes. Only one other shot besides the goal was on frame for the Blue Devils and Murillo made the save.
The second goal of the season from
Wojciech Piwowarczyk (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) tied the game on the hour mark. The first-year Knight knocked the ball in at the back post while falling to the ground.
Jamie Leddy (Bateman’s Bay, Australia/Bateman’s Bay) started the sequence with a long throw in that Piwowarcczyk went up for and missed but then found a pass from
Enver Caymaz (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) while falling and scored the equalizer.
Fairleigh Dickinson used a couple deep throw-ins from
Jamie Leddy (Bateman’s Bay, Australia/Bateman’s Bay) in the remaining half hour of the second half, but the Central Connecticut defense was there to clear its lines each time.
Up next for Fairleigh Dickinson is a road trip to Brooklyn to face the Blackbirds of LIU Brooklyn on Friday evening for a 5 p.m. start time.
